Innovative NIDA Blending Products

As part of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) Blending Initiative, IRETA participates in NIDA Blending Teams, which are composed of NIDA researchers, community-based substance abuse treatment practitioners and trainers from the ATTC Network who work closely together to develop 'products' (e.g. training curricula, supervisory manuals) from research conducted within NIDA's Clinical Trials Network (CTN) as well as other research supported by NIDA. To date, six separate blending products have been developed.

Manual: Problem Solving Tools for Drug Court Professionals

In their daily work, drug court professionals are called upon to evaluate behaviors and communicate offender progress to other drug court team members. Co-authored by IRETA Director Peter Luongo, Ph.D, for the George Mason Center for Advancing Correction Excellence, this training manual proposes both content and process analyses to assist drug court teams to evaluate the usefulness and effectiveness of a participant’s treatment plan and progress.

Topics include basic information about methadone and pregnancy/postpartum safety issues, dosing, clinical issues, and how to support a Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) client.

The ATTC network is designed to speed the implementation of new research being done on effective treatment methods. Through this national network, IRETA is uniquely connected to expert researchers, trainers, and members of the addictions workforce.
