National Institute on Drug Abuse: NIDA was established in 1974, and in October 1992 it became part of the National Institutes of Health, Department of Health and Human Services. The Institute is organized into divisions and offices, each of which plays an important role in programs of drug abuse research. NIDA's mission is to lead the Nation in bringing the power of science to bear on drug abuse and addiction. This website provides resources for researchers, health professionals, parents, teachers, and students.
