Many folks in the Pittsburgh region have recently learned about the closing of UPMC’s Narcotic Addiction Treatment Program at Western Behavioral Health. According to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the program will end operations by the end of the month, affecting patients currently receiving methadone maintenance treatment and other opioid use disorder (OUD) treatment services.
Even with appropriate coordination and transfer of care, this can be disruptive for patients. Changing a facility may mean a change in take-home medication policy, a change in counselor/ therapist, a change in transportation arrangements and more. However, maintaining treatment with methadone is critical.
For those who may be affected and seeking a new provider, the SAMHSA Treatment Locator provides locations and contact information for nearby methadone clinics (also known as opioid treatment programs or OTPs).
Also, individuals seeking treatment or supports for themselves or a loved one can call the toll-free PA Get Help Now helpline at 1-800-662-HELP (4357), available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and staffed by trained professionals.
