Conversations That Inspire Change: A Taste of Motivational Interviewing

Written by Marla Kauffman | May 30, 2025

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an evidence-based, trauma-informed approach for substance use. In this didactic and experiential training, you will get a “taste” of MI and learn how and why it is helpful in the setting of substance use. Concurrent research on effective therapists/counselors has identified 8 core clinical skills that contribute to positive client outcomes and these skills overlap significantly with MI. We will explore both the relational and technical components of Motivational Interviewing, providing you with practical skills that can be applied immediately.
