Opioid Settlement Funds in Practice Lessons from Other States for Pennsylvania Counties

Written by Marla Kauffman | May 23, 2026

As counties across Pennsylvania continue to plan for and allocate opioid settlement funds, many are asking similar questions: What does effective use of these funds look like in practice? How are other states structuring and managing their funds? And what support is available to guide local decision-making?

This webinar brings together national and state-level perspectives to help Pennsylvania counties better understand how opioid settlement funds are being implemented across the country. Speakers will highlight key principles, share examples of how county associations are supporting local planning efforts, and explore emerging tools and resources designed to promote evidence-informed investments.

Participants will also gain insight into how opioid settlement spending is being tracked nationally and learn about technical assistance and planning support available to counties, including resources developed by IRETA.

This session is designed for county commissioners, drug and alcohol administrators, and other stakeholders involved in opioid settlement decision-making who are seeking practical guidance and real-world examples to inform their work.

Presented by IRETA, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Michigan Association of Counties, and Kentucky Association of Counties.
