Description
All nurses encounter patients with addiction and these patients can be challenging to treat. However, it is imperative that nurses foster positive relationships with patients that have substance use disorders in order to provide high quality healthcare.
Presenter
Katherine Fornili, DNP, MPH, RN, CARN, FIAAN is an Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland, School of Nursing. She teaches clinical and didactic courses for baccalaureate and doctor of nursing practice students, and is conducting research regarding nurses’ roles in the prevention and treatment of addiction as well as recovery support. She has served three terms on the board of directors for the International Nurses Society on Addictions, as IntNSA President-Elect for 2016-2018, and will serve as IntNSA’s President for 2018-2020. She is also an Associate Editor for the Journal of Addictions Nursing.
