Despite the recent rise in overdose-related mortalities in the United States, the topic of responding to the emotional tolls of this unprecedented death rate has been largely neglected in both research and service provision. While others have drawn attention to the anguish experienced by families in coping with a family member’s fatal overdose, this workshop highlights the predicament of clinicians following a fatal overdose of a client.
Presenter
Adelya Urmanche is trained as a clinical psychologist and is finishing her postdoctoral research fellowship at Mount Sinai Beth Israel in New York City. She is interested in research that amplifies the voices of people who use drugs and those who work with them, directly informing clinical practice. She has previously worked with organizations like NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and Weill Cornell Medical College.
