Addressing Clinical Issues in Transgender Populations

Description

This webinar will provide both practitioners and administrators increased familiarity with the barriers faced by transgender individuals in need of substance use treatment. It will provide skill-building, knowledge-enhancing practical suggestions on how to offer sensitive, affirmative, culturally relevant, and effective treatment to transgender individuals in substance use treatment.

Presenter

JoAnne Keatley, MSW is Director of the UCSF Center of Excellence for Transgender Health and has previously directed NIDA, SAMHSA, and State of California transgender projects. JoAnne received her Master of Social Welfare degree from the University of California, Berkley.

Born in Mexico City, she is proud to be a Latina transgender woman and is bilingual in English and Spanish. JoAnne has consulted on transgender health at the NIH, CDC, HRSA, and SAMHSA. She is currently Vice-Chair of the Board for SalvaSIDA, a California non-profit organization, and previously served on the Boards of Out and Equal and New Leaf.
