SBIRT 101 for School Based Health Center SBHC Providers

Description

Part of a two-part webinar series on SBIRT to reduce and prevent substance use in schools. This webinar series was created for stakeholders in New Mexico, but is open to all participants.

A presentation of the SBIRT tools for New Mexico state providers in School-Based Health Centers.

Presenter

Brett Harris, DrPH, is Project Evaluator of the federally funded New York State SBIRT (NYSBIRT) cooperative agreement which delivers SBIRT in Sexually Transmitted Disease clinics and Tuberculosis Chest Centers in New York City and emergency departments and a federally qualified health center in Jefferson County near Fort Drum. She has worked at the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) Research and Development Unit for over four years and, besides her work on NYSBIRT, she is an integral team member for SBIRT in school-based health centers (SBHCs).

Mary Ramos, MD, MPH, is a Board-certified Pediatrician and an Assistant Professor in the UNM Department of Pediatrics. From 2007 until 2011, she served as School Health Officer for the NM Department of Health and was the Medical Director of the NM DOH School-Based Health Center Program. She enjoys close working relationships with both the NM DOH and with SBHC personnel. She currently conducts adolescent and school health services research focusing on SBHCs and school nursing services. She provides clinical care at a SBHC in Albuquerque (East San Jose Elementary School).

Daisy Rosero has over 15 years of experience working with children and youth in a variety of educational and clinical settings. Prior to her appointment with the SBIRT project, she worked closely with the disability community at the Center for Development and Disability. She has also worked with native communities and underserved populations in rural areas throughout the state.
