Description
This webinar provides an overview of the principles of Motivational Interviewing and a brief intervention. Focus is placed upon the sources of and strategies to diffuse client anger.
It examines a variety of motivational enhancement approaches to anger management designed to assist clients in both reducing their daily levels of anger and in developing more functional coping skills. Techniques designed to increase client awareness and motivation for change and strategies for avoiding and escaping anger-invoking situations are presented.
Presenter
Victoria E. Lahey, MS Ed, NCC is currently a therapist in private practice providing group and individual therapy as well as training and clinical consultation. Formerly the Director of Forensic Services for Mon Yough Community Services and the Associate Director of the Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force, she has provided professional development, training, and consultation on substance abuse, treating the forensic client, and/or HIV Disease for drug and alcohol treatment personnel, youth service agencies, and AIDS Service Organizations both nationally and throughout Pennsylvania. Ms. Lahey is a member of the Pennsylvania State HIV and Substance Abuse Training Team, and is on the faculties of the Pennsylvania Mid Atlantic AIDS Education and Training Center and the Bureau of Drug and Alcohol Programs. In addition she has provided training for the Pennsylvania State Board of Probation and Parole and the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation. Recently, Ms. Lahey was certified by the National Organization for Victims Assistance as a crisis responder and trainer.
