Presenter
Dr. Lauren Broyles started her career at the University of Maryland Medical System in Baltimore where she was a med-surg staff nurse (HIV/AIDS) and a nurse on the Substance Abuse Consultation-Liaison Service. After completing her PhD and a 2-year postdoctoral fellowship, she served as a Research Health Scientist at the Center for Health Equity Research and Promotion (CHERP) at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System. Her research there centered on the efficacy and implementation of SBIRT and other alcohol risk reduction interventions in general medical settings. At that time, she also served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh, with appointments in General Internal Medicine, Clinical and Translational Science, and Nursing. Additionally, at the VA she served as a site Director and National Coordinating Center Director for the Advanced Interprofessional Fellowship in Addiction Treatment. She has served as a member of federal grant review panels, and as an Associate Editor for the journal, Substance Abuse. In 2016, Dr. Broyles left academia and began working full time as a consultant, training and coaching other researchers in how to write successful grant proposals to the NIH, National Science Foundation, and USDA.
