What’s So Great About the Pittsburgh Recovery Walk? This Amazing Video Says It All

We are overwhelmed by the support of the whole Pittsburgh community, who came together last month to celebrate the reality and possibility of recovery from addiction.

2018 Pittsburgh Recovery Walk By The Numbers

At this year’s Recovery Walk, we:

  • Hosted over 2,000 participants, 40 community groups, and 60+ volunteers (THANK YOU!)
  • Distributed 85 kits of naloxone (by request only, so we know they went to people who needed it)
  • Screened 30 people for STIs and hepatitis C
  • Received sponsorship from 14 local organizations, including our presenting sponsors UPMC, UPMC Health Plan, and Community Care Behavioral Health
  • Offered stylish face-painting to dozens of children, and at least one tough-looking adult (check out the video!)

What’s Next for the Pittsburgh Recovery Walk?

Planning has already begun for the 2019 Pittsburgh Recovery Walk, and we will announce a date when it has been finalized.

We recognize that this event is an emotional experience for many in our region. We feel it every year: the powerful combination of courage, gratitude, and loss.

We believe that in coming together, we can speak loudly about our personal experiences and offer hope to those who struggle. We can also collectively address the barriers to recovery and prejudice toward drug users that stand between so many western Pennsylvanians and a more hopeful tomorrow.

As recovery advocate Steven Bamber wrote in 2010, “Couldn’t we be doing things better?” Yes, and let’s.
