Executive Director
The Institute for Research, Education, and Training in Addictions (IRETA) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Executive Director to lead our organization. This is a unique opportunity for a visionary leader to make a significant impact in the field of addiction research, education, and training.
IRETA is an independent 501 (c) (3) non profit located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1999 IRETA’s mission is to help people respond effectively to substance use and related problems. Our clients are programs and systems whose success hinges on responding effectively to substance use, including addiction treatment providers, health care systems and the criminal justice systems.
Responsibilities
The Executive Director is responsible for leading and managing the affairs of the organization under the general oversight of the Board of Directors. The successful candidate must support the mission of IRETA and demonstrate efforts to meet its goals and objectives.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must possess the following qualifications:
- Doctoral degree in a related field and ten (10) or more years of work experience in the management of complex health and human services programs.
- Knowledge of non-profit organizations including fiscal management and budgets.
- Demonstrated ability in public speaking, written and oral communications, and interpersonal relations.
- Ability to work with individuals for the purpose of building effective teams and collaborations.
Duties
- Board Responsibilities
- Serves as the principal resource to the Board of Directors. Keeps Board informed of the status, progress, and issues related to all programs, projects, and organizational operations.
- Assists the Board Chairperson in the scheduling of Board and Executive Committee meetings, preparing agendas, reviewing and updating Board bylaws, determining committee structures, and preserving meeting records.
- Attends all general and committee meetings and executive sessions to which the Executive Director is invited.
- Serves as ex officio non-voting member of the Board of Directors and its committees.
- Facilitates regular analysis and presentation of financial information to the Board, proposing appropriate action when indicated.
- Identifies the need for new and revised policies and submits drafts of recommended policies.
- Prepares recommendations related to matters requiring Board action and provides information to assist Board members in making informed decisions.
- Directs the implementation of policies, contractual requirements, and legal obligations.
2. Administrative/Leadership Responsibilities
- Provides the leadership necessary to enable IRETA to achieve its mission and goals. Makes administrative and executive decisions required to fulfill the effective functioning of the organization.
- Keeps abreast of emerging evidence, trends, and developments in the field.
- Oversees and participates in planning, directing, and leading all internal and external operations of the organization.
- Develops new business opportunities to ensure the viability and sustainability of the organization.
- Provides leadership and management in an ethical and professional manner that reflects the values of IRETA and its Board of Directors.
- Ensures that the organization observes sound business practices by monitoring its finances and accounting practices.
- Oversees the financial audit process in partnership with the Financial Officer.
- Strives to enhance the financial position of the organization by researching, identifying, and pursuing other relevant and appropriate revenue streams and by efficient management of existing funds.
- Enhances public awareness and the visibility of IRETA to external audiences; represents IRETA at appropriate scientific meetings, conferences, events, etc.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.
- Travel to consultation sites as needed.
